Who We Are

Ross Township, located in Merrillville, IN provides essential services
including township assistance.

We strive to focus on the quality of life of those we serve; the responsible and transparent use of taxpayer funds; and investment in the development of our employees to create a positive culture and better serve all. All of us aim to show ownership, commitment, passion, and caring in everything we do.

Ross Township is governed by the a three-member elected Township Board and managed daily by the elected Trustee.

Mission Statement

To operate all components of Ross Township Trustee office, including Parks, Cemeteries, and Merrillville Fire Protection Territory with efficiency, effectiveness and integrity, to ensure the residents in Merrillville, Hobart South and Crown Point North are treated honestly, adequately and with paramount respect.

Assistance

Emergency financial assistance is available for necessities based on family size and income. Assistance includes rental/mortgage payments, utilities, medical bills, burial expenses and food. Workfare programs are required for able-bodied assistance recipients. Must provide current ID and utility bill. To find out more if you qualify.

Referrals

Ross Township acts as a support agency by referring people to the proper local social service agencies as needed.

Fire Territory

Ross Township coordinated efforts to establish the Merrillville Fire Protection Territory. The improvements to the fire services have lowered the Township Fire ISO rating, thus lowering home insurance rates.

Recreational Services & Facilities

Ross Township has five beautifully maintained parks within Merrillville and Ross Township. We have a Social Center, Shelters, Disc Golf Course, Hay Rides & Bonfires

Bus Service

Ross Township subsidizes bus transportation through Lake County Community Services for the disabled and senior citizen of Ross Township. The subsidy allows riders to pay a discounted fee. Seniors receive discounts for many services.

Food Pantry

Qualified Township residents are referred to the Ross Township Food Pantry located at the St. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral. The Pantry is staffed by volunteers and funded entirely through generous donations. Monetary donations, food and commodities are needed and accepted throughout the year.
